Love Good Food Programme
We are currently running several projects related to
food:
Riverbank Community Cafe
Krata are supporting opening a community cafe and market garden in Merseybank
in Chorlton. It started because Jessica Symons and June Stenson got together
and talked about how to bring good food to the Merseybank area with poor
access to decent ingredients and no cafes serving decent food. More
about Riverbank project
This project has been supported by Food Futures and we are
at Stage 2 application for funding with the Local Food Fund (fingers crossed!)
Chorlton Eats
Objective
Produce a practical, imaginative and locally-specific strategy with recommendations
on how to encourage and widen the production and purchase of local, organic
and fairly traded food by different communities in Chorlton
Results
The project was carried out working with students from Chorlton High
school to act as collaborators in carrying out the consultation. They
filmed and interviewed participant groups and contributed their ideas
on how to address the issues around healthy eating. Their filming work
was edited by filmmaker, Andy Lawrence and is shown here.
Recommendation on further action
"We propose to build on the existing local enthusiasm for good
food in one part of Chorlton and enthuse the rest of the community. The
solution strategy is to launch a vision stating that 'Chorlton loves
good food' and implement a series of solutions targeting different
community groups and encouraging them to develop a love of good food.
This love will foster a keen interest in good food, enhanced by eating,
cooking, growing and shopping for tasty ingredients to make tasty meals.
People will then seek out and develop their own ideas for acquiring healthy
ingredients and good recipes. Their love for food will encourage them
to make time to cook and pay more for good quality ingredients.
As they develop in their cooking skills, which they can share with friends
and family, their love for food will increase. They will communicate their
love of food to others widening the 'food love circle' to eventually encompass
all of Chorlton."
